What we teach

From hands on support techniques for labour and birth, breath work, common processes, drugs, Caesarean birth, and care of the newborn
MoM Antenatal Classes are Australia’s most hands on and
in depth antenatal education!

We deliver 5 week weeknight and 2 day weekend courses; the content is exactly the same.

5 sessions over 5 weeks

5 sessions over 5 weeks

We deep dive into antenatal expressing of colostrum, perineal massage and start training your support team. Our deep dive simulations begin in earnest to get you used to the intensity
and reality of labour and birth!

This week is all about understanding how to optimise your environmental and emotional factors to support physiological birth! We also start walking you through the signs, symptoms and sources of pain in labour, then introduce an extensive list of non pharmacological tools and techniques (think focused breathing, TENS machines, birth combs, hands on techniques and more!) for use across the spectrum to labour to counter them in practical and real ways

We put your people through their paces by “giving birth” at the start of this weeks class, getting them to utilise the expansive toolbelt and support strategies that we have been deep diving into. But in real time with a “real” labouring person! Pharmacological pain relief options including sterile water injections, gas and morphine are all delved into. To finish off the night, one support person will “get” an epidural in active labour to illustrate the process, procedure and practicalities.

This week is all about tackling the unknown of what can happen if your labour deviates from normal. From fetal scalp electrodes, forceps to episiotomies, we break down the how and why these might be discussed with you. And reframe them as things that may be labour or life saving. At the end of the night, our beautiful “Sally” will give birth three different times, in three different ways to educate and empower.

Our final class is allllll about caring for these beautiful little humans that we have grown and birthed into the world, along with ourselves. We highlight the hormonal shifts that drive breastfeeding and the simple (yet important!) steps that will see you start your feeding journey strong! We then tackle the VERY BIG S words - sleep and settling.

To finish off our time together, our famous “Love Letters To Ourselves” activity gives you the opportunity to lean into the journey ahead and remind yourself that you are EVERYTHING you and your baby need!

N.B. If you are planning on an alternative feeding method from the get go, please let us know so we can incorporate that info!

Weekend Intensive

Weekend Intensive

We deep dive into antenatal expressing of colostrum, perineal massage and start training your support team with hands on techniques to prepare your body for birth in all its forms. Our deep dive simulations begin in earnest to get you used to the intensity and reality of labour and birth!

We will then solidify your understanding on how to optimise your environmental and emotional factors to support physiological birth, walking you through the signs, symptoms and sources of pain in labour, then introduce an extensive list of non pharmacological tools and techniques (think focused breathing, TENS machines, birth combs, hands on techniques and more!) for use across the spectrum to labour to counter them in practical and real ways!

The day begins by putting your support people through their paces with one of your Midwife educators “giving birth” , getting them to utilise the expansive toolbelt and support strategies that we discussed in our Saturday class - in real time with a “real” labouring person!

Pharmacological pain relief options including sterile water injections, gas and morphine are all delved into, with one support person going on to “get” an epidural in active labour to illustrate the process, procedure and practicalities.

Tackling the unpredictable (and often unplanned for) deviations from normal is a really important part of our classes. From fetal scalp electrodes, forceps to episiotomies, we break down the how and why these might be discussed with you. And reframe them as things that may be labour or life saving - but also that you will always be in the drivers seat of any intervention that is discussed or recommended. Our educators will give birth three different times, in three different ways to educate and empower.

Our final class is allllll about caring for these beautiful little humans that we have grown and birthed into the world, as well as how to prepare for a supported postpartum period.
